JANUARY and FEBRUARY Activities



Tu, Jan 2th-DIXIE POETS critiques, (and Feb 6-Lesson by Pam Tucker) 2-4 pm  at Senior Citizen Center  245 North 200 West in St. George in Conference room upstairs. Newcomers always welcome. Bring your $30 dues for 2018 to this meeting and they will be mailed to UTSPS president Bill Asplund by Jan 5, 2018 include a poem about holidays if you'd like to enter his contest-can be published poem, any length, etc.

FRIDAY SCHEDULE: A CELEBRATION OF SOUND AND SENSE


8:45-9:00 am Finalize Registration, Mix and Mingle at Zion Park Lodge.
9-10:45 Workshop Part I – Generating Sound Sequences and Gathering Materials, instructions for the nature walk-and lunch time writing.
11 am-noon (Optional) Nature Walk with ZCFI Naturalist. We’ll explore the Grotto’s handicap accessible path to view the wonders of this beautiful area along the Virgin River. For those not wishing to take the Nature Walk-take your own walk or use this time to write poetry and remain in the Zion Park Lodge.
Noon-1pm LUNCH-Bring a sack lunch or enjoy eating at Zion Park Lodge’s Redrock Grill, visiting and individual writing time.
1-2:45  pm Workshop Part II – Blending the Sensible and the Surprising-using the materials we have generated and gathered during the workshop and our experiences in the park to write poems that will surprise and delight writers and audiences alike.
3-4 pm Sharing Circle-(Optional) share poems written.

*Thursday night March 1st, 2018, FREE Z-ARTS LECTURE by  Shanan at Canyon community Center in Springdale at 7 pm. Inexpensive lodging available in Springdale, come join us before the crowds and shuttles begin. Note there is some construction in Springdale city so come early.

*Friday March 2 CHAPARRAL CONTEST AWARD PROGRAMS in St. George at Community Bldg 245 N 200 W 7 PM-Student poems, 8 PM Adult poems. FREE.
