JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2017 Activities

Tu, Jan 3 (and Feb 7), 2-4 pm DIXIE POETS at Senior Citizen Center  245 North 200 West in St. George. Jan 3-Lesson by Lin Floyd, and Feb 7-Lesson by Karma Wasden on writing children's poetry plus critiques-bring 8-10 copies of 1 poem  for helpful suggestions from the group. New poets always welcome. (Bring $1 donation for use of the facility.) PAY YOUR UTSPS DUES by Jan 5th...$30. Details.

Th, Jan 19th (and Feb 16th) REDROCK WRITERS poetry group will meet at Markay’s home at 7 pm, her email <nadbmarb@gmail.com> FIRST before coming. All welcome.

NEW EVENT: POETRY JAM Wed, Jan 28 (and Wed. Feb 22) at 7 pm at St George Art Museum located at corner of 2nd North and Main Street across from Post Office. Bring a poem about  CELEBRATIONS. Barbara Funke won for best original poem with judging by the audience. For Feb. bring a love poem.

Sat, March 4- Redrock Creative Writing Seminar  from 9 am to 1:30 pm with three outstanding presenters: 1. Joel Long who will discuss Rhythm and Muse. 2. Tanya Parker Mills will present Finding Poetry in Prose. 3. CONTESTS

1.  UTSPS Panorama 2017 submit 3-4 poems by Jan 5, 2017. E-mail submission is preferred and should be sent to the editor  jennifer.asplund@yahoo.com.  If you prefer to submit a hard copy, then send them to Bill Asplund, 2262 E 1200 N, Layton, Utah, 84040-7743.  The deadline to get them in is January 5, 2017.  Jennifer already has some submissions that were sent in the summer to Rose.  Congrats to our local poets in this issue:  Markay Brown, Gary Christian, Lin FLoyd, Candy Fowler, Barbara Funke, LaVerna Johnson, Kate Kirkham, Marilyn Richardson and Marie Tollstrup.  
2. UTSPS April Conference Contest 2017-rules available on utahpoets.com due Feb 7, 2017. Get your dues $30 paid by Jan 3, 2017 to get a discount on fees. More dates and plans to be announced.
